What is OSHA?
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor that focuses on ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for workers by setting and enforcing standards, as well as providing training, outreach, education, and assistance. OSHA’s mission is to protect workers from hazards that could cause injury, illness, or death while on the job.
Sqwincher® Recognised in OSHA’s National Heat Contest
OSHA’s National Heat Contest celebrates proactive efforts aimed at helping U.S. industrial workers “Build Armor” against heat-related illnesses by emphasising awareness, prevention, and emergency response. Kent Precision Foods Group, the parent company of Sqwincher®, is honoured to have been selected as one of this year’s winners. Sqwincher® has been recognised for its positive impact on workplace safety by ensuring that workers have access to the vital hydration they need to remain safe in demanding, high-heat environments.
In OSHA’s announcement, the importance of electrolyte beverages for maintaining proper hydration on the job was highlighted:
“These photos from Kent Precision Foods Group depict workers from various industries (auto mechanic, firefighter, construction worker) hydrating. Workers lose salt and other electrolytes when they sweat. Substantial loss of electrolytes can cause muscle cramps and other dangerous health problems. Water cannot replace electrolytes; other types of beverages, such as electrolyte-containing beverages, are sometimes needed. Water or other fluids provided by the employer should be cool and stationed in a location that is familiar to the workers, near the worksite, easy to access, and in sufficient quantity for the duration of the work.”
